CARMONN FRENCH

At times I will draw upon inspiration from the natural landscapes around us, and the inherent memories that we associate with them. My art is never devoid of a human element, I enjoy creating some sense of shared space between this intimate human presence and an almost romanticised notion of the Australian landscape. I hail from rural NSW, this is why I need such a strong presence of the land within my works, to keep me tethered to my roots. My little viewing studio is located in Darlinghurst where I own and run my own gallery space. I much prefer to use inks and oil paints, to create a natural fluidity and sense of rich texture within my works; As I feel these mediums allow me to not only create art, but to honour each medium as it has its own unique language. My approach to art can be summed up as being rough and raw, expressive and bitterly romantic an obsession stemming from my father’s life as a stonemason, the ways in which he used natural resources to build up his own life.

Her next Solo exhibition will be held in her gallery in October 28th in Darlinghurst 2023 ~ Like a Lover ~
